The Maratón de Viña is the largest mass sporting event outside Santiago. The 2026 edition is close to full.

The Maratón de Viña is run in Viña del Mar, Chile on Sunday 4 October 2026. The official rules set the competition window from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.

Three distances are offered. They are a 10K, the 21.0975km half marathon and the 42.195km marathon, with the two longer races certified by World Athletics.

The start is at the first sector of Playa de Reñaca, on Avenida Ignacio Carrera Pinto, running south. The finish is on the same avenue near Calle Las Gaviotas.

The event is organised by Prokart SpA with the backing of the Chilean athletics federation. Entries are capped at 13,500 across the distances.

How Full the Field Is

About 12,000 runners were entered in mid-September. The 10K filled its 6,000 places and is closed.

The half marathon carries 3,500 places and the marathon 2,500. Those are the two distances with room left at the time of writing.

The half marathon now asks for a qualifying time from a race run in the previous eighteen months. That condition is new for this edition.

Late-tier entry runs CLP 32,000 for the 10K, CLP 37,000 for the half and CLP 42,000 for the marathon, before service charges. At 953.44 pesos to the dollar that is about US$34, US$39 and US$44.

Runners had until 20 September to change distance. After that the entry stands as bought.

A Course Run Beside the Sea

The route follows the coast road through Reñaca and Viña del Mar. It is flat by the standards of Chilean road races, and exposed to the wind off the Pacific.

Early October in the region is spring. Mornings are cool and often overcast, which suits a long race better than the summer months do.

The event closes the coastal road for the morning, which matters for anyone living along it. Access to Reñaca is restricted while the field is on the course.

Organisers announced a revised single-loop marathon course in September, and press coverage since has referred to the Playa del Deporte sector as the start and finish area.

The official rules published in May give Playa de Reñaca. Anyone travelling to the start should confirm the final arrangement before race morning rather than rely on either version.

What It Means If You Live in Chile

The race is the largest mass participation sporting event held outside Santiago. For foreign residents it is the easiest large road race in the country to reach.

Viña del Mar is about ninety minutes from the capital by road. A Sunday start at 7 a.m. means either a night in the city or a very early departure.

Accommodation along the coast fills for the weekend. Booking after the middle of September is materially harder than booking in August.

The 10K is the entry point for most people, and it is the distance that sells out first. Anyone planning to run it in 2027 should treat the first tier as the real deadline.

For runners already based in the Valparaíso region, the event is a home race at a scale the country otherwise offers only in Santiago.

What Is Not Yet Settled

The final route map and the start area had not been reconciled in public at the time of writing. That is the one open question of substance.

Cut-off times for each distance are not stated in the rules beyond the overall window. Runners at the back of the marathon field should ask the organiser directly.

Remaining places at the two longer distances also change daily. The numbers quoted here are the position in mid-September rather than a live count.

Road closure times for the coastal route had not been published in detail. Residents along the course usually get those in the week of the race.

The qualifying-time requirement for the half marathon is also new enough that its handling at registration is untested. Runners relying on an older result should confirm it is accepted.

None of this affects the date, the distances or the fees, which are all settled. It affects where to stand at a quarter to seven on a Sunday morning.
