Economic Read-Through. Both events spotlight Puebla’s growing gastronomy-tourism sector, a key driver for local property and small-business investment.

Two major Cholula cultural festivals converge on Sunday 26 July, as Coffee Fest Sonidero brings specialty coffee and music to the Museo Regional while the Festival “Puebla en Nogada” attempts an eight-ton record chile en nogada at Parque Soria.

Coffee Fest Sonidero Brings Specialty Producers to the Pyramid’s Shadow

Coffee Fest Sonidero will run from 10:00 to 21:00 on Sunday 26 July at the Museo Regional de Cholula, on Avenida 14 Poniente next to the Great Pyramid. Entry is free, with specialised workshops priced around 200 Mexican pesos (roughly US$10).

Around 15 specialty coffee bars and local producers from Puebla municipalities such as Naupan and Huitzilan will pour and sell their beans. The event targets families who may not yet know that Puebla grows high-quality specialty coffee.

A latte art competition with 16 baristas anchors the programme, alongside tastings, masterclasses on home brewing, and demonstrations of cold coffee cocktails. Sonidero music and dance will run throughout the day, and visitors can access the museum’s permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Festival “Puebla en Nogada” Aims for an Eight-Ton Record

The Festival “Puebla en Nogada” begins on 23 July at Parque Soria in San Pedro Cholula and peaks on Sunday 26 July. Ten traditional cooks, culinary schools, historians and artistic groups will anchor the gastronomic programme.

Organisers expect around 15,000 visitors across the four days, with an estimated economic impact of 5.5 million Mexican pesos (about US$275,000). Visitors can buy chile en nogada in various presentations and price ranges, from popular to gourmet.

On 26 July the cooks will attempt to prepare the largest chile en nogada in the world, with an estimated weight of around eight tons. As part of the celebration, 6,000 chiles en nogada will be given away free, following a specific distribution dynamic.

A Broader Push to Turn Gastronomy into Year-Round Tourism

Chile en nogada season runs from July to September across Puebla state, with multiple festivals in municipalities such as San Nicolás de los Ranchos, San Andrés Calpan and the city of Puebla itself. The Cholula events connect local producers of coffee, walnuts and fruits directly with consumers and international visitors.

Both festivals wrap gastronomy inside a full cultural experience that includes music, dance, artisan exhibitions and educational conferences. This model mirrors successful strategies in Oaxaca and Mérida, where food festivals have become reliable anchors for small-business revenue and real-estate demand.

For Cholula, which already draws visitors for its pyramid and colonial architecture, adding signature food-and-music events extends the tourist stay and spending per head. Local authorities are betting that a packed July calendar will strengthen the town’s brand as a weekend destination for Mexico City and Puebla capital residents.

What the Cholula Cultural Festivals Mean for Investors and Expats

Cholula’s property market has already seen rising interest from Mexican and foreign buyers seeking lower prices than Mexico City or San Miguel de Allende. Events like Coffee Fest Sonidero and Puebla en Nogada add cultural infrastructure that supports rental yields and hospitality ventures.

Specialty coffee is a high-margin sector in Mexico, with export potential and a growing domestic consumer base. The presence of 15 producers at a free-entry festival signals that Puebla’s coffee supply chain is maturing beyond raw-commodity sales into branded, direct-to-consumer retail.

For expats already living in the Puebla-Tlaxcala corridor, the festivals offer networking opportunities with local producers, chefs and artisans. The international participation from 35 countries at Puebla en Nogada also suggests that organisers are deliberately courting a global audience, which tends to raise service standards and English-language accessibility over time.

How to Navigate Both Cholula Cultural Festivals on 26 July

The two venues are roughly 15 minutes apart by car. Coffee Fest Sonidero at the Museo Regional runs from 10:00 to 21:00, while the record attempt at Parque Soria is a daytime affair on Sunday.

A practical itinerary would start with morning coffee tastings and the latte art competition at the museum, then move to Parque Soria for the giant chile en nogada attempt and free servings. Both sites sit near the Great Pyramid and Cholula’s central zócalo, making it easy to fill gaps with cultural sightseeing.

Parking will be tight. Visitors coming from Puebla city or Mexico City should plan to arrive early or use ride-hailing apps, as street closures around Parque Soria are likely during the record attempt.
