Nubank Tests Online Debit Payment for Uber, iFood, Other E-commerce Sites

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Nubank has released a new feature for some clients: payment for Uber travel, Uber Eats, and iFood deliveries can be made through debit, by registering the card number in the respective apps.

The feature is being tested among some users and will be accessible to everyone in February. The digital account also allows paying for the Spotify Premium and Netflix subscriptions.

Initially, Nubank’s debit payment is being tested with members of the official NuCommunity. “Our whole customer base will have access from February 2020,” pledges the company.

If you are among those selected, you may add Nubank’s debit to the Uber app by tapping the side menu, tapping Payment, and then tapping Add Payment Method. The first option will be Credit or Debit Card; simply enter the details.

The procedure is similar for iFood: tap Profile at the bottom, go to Payment methods and tap Credit/debit card to add NuConta. Uber Eats deliveries can also be paid this way.

The payment will be deducted directly from your digital account. Purchases will not be authorized if they exceed balance, as it cannot get negative because there is no overdraft option.

In Nubank, the debit card is optional: you can request it through the Nubank app by tapping on its name and then on Request Debit Function. If you have a credit card, this is not required, as it is a multiple-card.

In early December, Nubank released payment of Netflix and Spotify plans (Premium, Premium Duo, Premium Family, and for university students) to all its clients. For the time being, Nubank’s debit is not available for other online purchases.
