Spotify’s Story Will be Told in Netflix Series

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Microsoft, Google and Facebook are examples of technology companies that have already been portrayed on the screens. Spotify will be next: the story of the music streaming service will be told in a Netflix series.

There is no date for the production to be released because recording has not even started yet. For now, what is known is that the scripts of the episodes are already being written.

They are based on the book Spotify Untold, by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud, which tells how the streaming company was founded and became a global phenomenon.

It is impossible to tell the story of Spotify without portraying the role of Martin Lorentzon and, most of all, Daniel Ek, the two founders of the company. They decided to create a streaming platform when they realized that piracy was on the rise because people didn’t have access to a more practical way to get music.

In fact, Spotify went into operation in 2008 in Sweden with the aim of being more attractive than torrents and the like. It worked: a little more than ten years later, Spotify reached the mark of 248 million users worldwide, of which 113 million are payers.

“The history of Spotify’s founding is a great example of how a local story can have a global impact,” says Tesha Crawford, director of original Netflix productions for Europe.

“It’s not just a story about how our lives have changed in the last decade, but about a battle for cultural and financial influence in a globalized, digitized world,” adds Berna Levin, executive producer at Yellow Bird, the producer who will oversee the series.
