Brazil leads the world ranking of e-commerce growth with a high of 22.2%. According to CupomValido’s data, the online segment grew in most countries during the Covid 19 pandemic, but Brazil led the way and is expected to grow another 20.73% between 2022 and 2025.

The figure stands out when compared to other countries’ results. The average growth expectation for all countries is 11.35%, and Brazil is expected to have twice that growth.

The growth of online sales in Brazil is higher than the expectations for Japan (14.7%), the United States (14.55%) and France (11.68%).

The growth of e-commerce in Brazil
According to the survey, two factors were key to the increase in online sales. The first was the pandemic, which changed the nature of consumption. Physical stores were closed, and many Brazilians made their first online purchase at that time.

The online mode brings advantages such as the convenience of buying, convenient payment options like Pix and fast deliveries.

Some companies, such as Magazine Luiza in São Paulo and 10 other cities, and Mercado Livre in São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Bahia, even deliver the product on the day of purchase.

Although the country tops the rankings for e-commerce growth, only 49% of the population in Brazil has made an online purchase. In developed countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, the rate is 84% and 77%, respectively.

This data highlights the Brazilian potential, as the domestic population is still in the early stages of consuming in this way, while there are countries where almost the entire population already makes virtual purchases.

Among the countries with the highest percentage of people who have already made at least one e-commerce purchase, Brazil and India (49%) are the only developing countries.

Ranked first through eighth are the United Kingdom (84%), the United States (77%), Japan (77%), Germany (74%), Canada (69%), China (64%), Spain (60%) and Italy (55%).
