Brazil elections 2022: Armed forces inspect ballot box source code at Electoral Court TSE

The Armed Forces are at the headquarters of the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to inspect the source code of the electronic ballot box. Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira sent a letter Monday (1) to the court, classified as “urgent,” requesting the analysis.

In the morning, military officials met with TSE information technicians, who provided information and clarified ambiguities.

The room with access to the source code has been open since October 2021. Consultation can be conducted by the entities that monitor the elections, including the armed forces. Eight other entities have already requested access since last year.

The ballot box system consists of lines of code with the entire electronic ballot box system. There are 17 million lines of code.

The room containing the ballot box source code will remain open until the voting systems are sealed. The TSE has until September 12 to seal the systems. Minister Alexandre de Moraes has yet to set the final date when he becomes president.

The armed forces have asked to see the source code by Aug. 12.

PV, PL, PTB, CGU (Comptroller General of the Union), MPF (Federal Public Ministry), UFRGS (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul), Senate, and PF (Federal Police) have already inspected the source code, are inspecting it or have already submitted a request for access to the source code, TSE told Poder360 outlet.
