Brazil: Weekly Consumer Price Index drops in May in five capitals surveyed

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) decreased in five of the seven capitals surveyed by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) from April to May this year.

The most intense drop was observed in Brasília, which went from 1.69% inflation in April to deflation (price drop) of 0.14% in May.

In Belo Horizonte, inflation dropped from 1.05% to 0.12% in the period. Rio de Janeiro (from 1.07% to 0.51%), São Paulo (from 1.04% to 0.54%), and Porto Alegre (from 0.95% to 0.34%) also dropped.

Two capitals had an increase in the rate from April to May: Salvador (from 0.82% to 1.15%) and Recife (from 1.22% to 1.28%).
