Nestlé Paraguay promotes movement to a “circular economy”

By · August 24, 2021 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In July, a cooperation agreement was signed between Nestlé Paraguay and IDB Lab, through the Moisés Bertoni Foundation, to promote actions to accelerate the process of consolidating the circular economy in the country.

The agreement provides for actions that will enable Nestlé to move towards circular business and consumption models in Paraguay by promoting responsible consumption through its brands and innovative packaging designs that are 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

The project, implemented by the Moisés Bertoni Foundation with the support of the IDB Lab (Innovation Lab of the Inter-American Development Bank Group), aims to improve environmental conditions, health, and economic opportunities in the vulnerable neighborhoods of Chacarita Alta and San Francisco in the AMA, and to promote the circular economy.

It plans to promote responsible consumption as part of the need for the end consumer to adopt good sustainable practices.

“The activities aim to strengthen the circular economy ecosystem through business and consumption models that promote higher recycling rates of waste materials such as cardboard, plastic and glass, and by promoting innovative solutions to achieve the circular economy with non-traditional packaging, seeking above all a triple bottom line of responsible and sustainable impact,” said Yan Speranza, director of the Moisés Bertoni Foundation.

Lizzie Kennedy said that Nestlé Paraguay is proud to promote this circular economy project in collaboration with Fundación Moisés Bertoni.

It will allow the country to take another step towards a circular economy with positive social and environmental impacts.

The circular economy is an attractive alternative that seeks to redefine economic growth, focusing on the benefits for society as a whole. It involves decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources and eliminating waste from the system.

It is gaining momentum throughout Latin America, and particularly in Paraguay, with the support of the IDB and the European Union, to promote a greener, more resilient, and competitive economy.
