Covid-19: Paraguay will have run out of vaccines by tomorrow (August 21)

By · August 20, 2021 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A few weeks ago, the first doses of Covid-19 vaccine ran out for everyone, so those who had registered but were unable to receive the vaccine did not know when they would receive it and are still waiting for more supplies to arrive, as this is the only way to continue the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI).

The same is happening now with the second dose. On Wednesday (18), the supply of Pfizer doses ended (the one that arrived in the largest quantity thanks to the two million donated by the United States); yesterday (19), the supply of AstraZeneca’s doses also ended, and today (20) is the last day for those who received Sputnik V through May 20.

Tomorrow, August 21, Paraguay will once again have out of vaccines.

Starting tomorrow, vaccination sites will be closed until more doses arrive from one of the platforms, as there are promises that there will be more than one, but there is no confirmation. Another 20,000 doses of Sputnik V (which would complete the cycle for only 10% of those who received the first dose) were supposed to arrive today, then they said they would arrive tomorrow, and now they say they will arrive between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Everything else remains to be seen. Although the government keeps claiming that it has acquired several million doses to ensure the immunization of the population, the reality is that most of the vaccines have arrived so far through donations from supporting countries.
