Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.

Brazil has no daylight saving time, so when US clocks go back at 2 a.m. on Sunday 1 November 2026, the Brazil time difference with New York grows from 1 hour to 2 hours. The same change adds one hour to the gap with Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles, while the presidential runoff on Sunday 25 October still runs on the old gap.

Brazil ended daylight saving time nationwide with Decree 9,772 of 25 April 2019, and it keeps four fixed zones from UTC-2 to UTC-5 under the Observatório Nacional’s legal time. Only the US side of the clock changes, which is why calls, flights and market hours between the two countries move on the US calendar and not on Brazil’s.

This guide gives the Brazil time difference for Brasília, Manaus, Acre and Fernando de Noronha against US Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time before and after the switch. It also covers election day, the B3 stock exchange, flights and what has not been confirmed.

Brazil Time Difference With the US Before and After 1 November

Each figure below is how many hours Brazil is ahead of the US zone, and a minus sign means behind. Until Saturday 31 October the US east coast is on daylight time (UTC-4), and from Sunday 1 November it is on standard time (UTC-5).

  • Brasília, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (UTC-3): 1 hour ahead of Eastern, 2 of Central, 3 of Mountain and 4 of Pacific until 31 October, then 2, 3, 4 and 5 hours from 1 November.
  • Manaus, Cuiabá, Campo Grande, Porto Velho and Boa Vista (UTC-4): level with Eastern, 1 hour ahead of Central, 2 of Mountain and 3 of Pacific until 31 October, then 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours from 1 November.
  • Rio Branco in Acre, and the far west of Amazonas (UTC-5): 1 hour behind Eastern, level with Central, 1 hour ahead of Mountain and 2 of Pacific until 31 October, then level with Eastern and 1, 2 and 3 hours ahead from 1 November.
  • Fernando de Noronha (UTC-2): 2 hours ahead of Eastern, 3 of Central, 4 of Mountain and 5 of Pacific until 31 October, then 3, 4, 5 and 6 hours from 1 November.

Hawaii, Arizona (outside the Navajo Nation) and territories such as Puerto Rico do not change their clocks, so their gap with Brazil stays the same on 1 November. Hawaii (UTC-10) remains 7 hours behind Brasília, Arizona (UTC-7) 4 hours behind and Puerto Rico (UTC-4) 1 hour behind.

When Exactly the US Clocks Change

NIST, the US national time agency, says daylight saving time in 2026 runs from 2 a.m. local time on 8 March to 2 a.m. local time on 1 November, when the clock becomes 1 a.m. and that hour repeats. Eastern clocks therefore move back at 06:00 UTC, which is 03:00 on Sunday 1 November in Brasília.

Central, Mountain and Pacific clocks follow one, two and three hours later, which is 04:00, 05:00 and 06:00 in Brasília. The dates come from the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which set daylight saving time from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November, and the US Department of Transportation regulates it.

Why Brazil Does Not Change Its Clocks

Decree 9,772 of 25 April 2019 declares the end of daylight saving time in Brazil and revokes 25 earlier decrees, with effect from publication. The Observatório Nacional, which keeps the Hora Legal Brasileira (Brazilian legal time), publishes its zones at UTC-5, UTC-4, UTC-3 and UTC-2 in a table without daylight saving time.

Law 12,876 of 30 October 2013 restored the Acre zone at UTC-5 and put Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima and most of Amazonas at UTC-4, with UTC-3 for the remaining mainland states. The Observatório Nacional places the ocean islands, including Fernando de Noronha, at UTC-2.

We found no decree, bill or official calendar that would bring daylight saving time back this year, and the newspaper O Antagonista wrote on 7 March 2026 that none existed. Brazil’s government can change the rule by decree, as it did in 2019, but we found no notice of any such plan.

Runoff Day on Sunday 25 October Still Uses the Old Gap

The presidential runoff falls before the US switch, so Brasília is 1 hour ahead of New York, and the TSE, Brazil’s electoral court, runs polls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brasília time in every state (see our runoff results guide). That is 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mountain and 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pacific.

The TSE says results start from 5 p.m. Brasília time, which is 4 p.m. Eastern, and that polls close at 5 p.m. only if no voters are still in line. Local clocks differ in the west and the islands, where polls open at 7 a.m. in Mato Grosso and Rondônia, at 6 a.m. in parts of Acre and at 9 a.m. in Fernando de Noronha.

B3 and Wall Street Hours After the Switch

Brazil’s stock exchange, B3, currently trades shares from 10:00 to 16:55 Brasília time, with a closing call to 17:00 and an after-market session from 17:30 to 18:00, according to its trading-hours page. That grid took effect on Monday 9 March 2026, the first trading day after US clocks moved forward, and the business daily Money Times reported that it cut the close by one hour from 17:55.

The New York Stock Exchange core session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern, which is 10:30 to 17:00 in Brasília until Saturday 31 October and 11:30 to 18:00 from Sunday 1 November. On today’s B3 grid the two exchanges overlap for about 6 hours 25 minutes, and the overlap would start an hour later on the winter clock.

B3’s page still shows the summer grid, and we found no 2026 notice for the winter one. Last year B3 announced on 15 October 2025 (Ofício Circular 040/2025-VNC) that from Monday 3 November 2025 the cash market would run until 18:00, and Money Times reported a 17:55 close with no after-market.

B3 is closed on Monday 2 November for All Souls’ Day, so a new grid would first apply on Tuesday 3 November if it follows the 2025 pattern. US-listed Brazilian ADRs such as Petrobras and Vale still trade in New York on 2 November, with no B3 session to set prices.

Flights, Calls and Bookings

Airline tickets show local times and flight durations do not change, so a flight that keeps its Brasília departure time lands an hour earlier on the New York clock after 1 November. For example, a 10-hour overnight flight leaving São Paulo at 22:00 lands at 08:00 in Brasília, which is 7:00 a.m. in New York before the switch and 6:00 a.m. after it, and this is an illustration, not a real schedule.

The Brazil time difference also affects bookings, since airlines may keep their New York arrival times and retime the Brazil departures, or the reverse, and we have not confirmed which Brazil–US flights change. Check the local departure and arrival times on your booking again after 1 November, especially if you have a tight connection.

A 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern workday is 10:00 to 18:00 in Brasília until 31 October and 11:00 to 19:00 from 1 November. A weekly call fixed at 10:00 Brasília time is 9:00 a.m. Eastern until 31 October and 8:00 a.m. Eastern afterwards unless the organiser re-times it.

Phones and computers use the standard time zone database, which keeps São Paulo at UTC-3 all year, so recently updated devices should show the right gap. Hand-set clocks, old alarm clocks and event tickets that print a time without a zone can still cause a one-hour error in the first week.

What It Means for You

If you are in the US, the Brazil time difference grows by one hour on 1 November, so Brasília is 2 hours ahead of New York and 5 hours ahead of Los Angeles. Re-check every recurring call, class, remote shift and booking that is set in Brazil time, and read the time zone label before you confirm.

If you invest in Brazil through US-listed ADRs, Wall Street’s 9:30 a.m. Eastern open is 11:30 in Brasília after the switch, so the first hour and a half of B3 trading happens before New York opens. If the B3 close stays at 17:55 as last winter, it falls at 3:55 p.m. Eastern, five minutes before the NYSE closes at 4:00 p.m.

If you travel to Brazil in November, note that Friday 20 November is a national holiday and B3 is closed (see our Black Consciousness Day guide). For the wider picture see the Rio Times Brazil hub, our São Paulo city guide and the explainer on who dominates Brazil.

What Is Not Known

B3 has not published a winter trading-hours grid for 2026 on the pages we checked, so the 17:55 close is last year’s precedent and not a confirmed schedule. We also do not know which airlines will retime Brazil–US flights after 1 November, because we found no airline notice.

We found no notice of a return of daylight saving time in Brazil, but a decree could still change the rule at short notice. The Observatório Nacional lists zones by state and island, so a few towns in western Amazonas that follow the Acre zone sit one hour behind Manaus and are not listed one by one here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Brazil time difference with New York?

Brasília is 1 hour ahead of New York until Saturday 31 October and 2 hours ahead from Sunday 1 November 2026. The change comes only from US clocks going back, because Brazil has had no daylight saving time since 2019.

Does Brazil have daylight saving time in 2026?

No, Decree 9,772 of 25 April 2019 ended daylight saving time nationwide, and we found no decree bringing it back. Brazil’s zones stay at UTC-2, UTC-3, UTC-4 and UTC-5 all year.

What time does the B3 stock exchange open and close?

As of 23 October 2026, B3 opens its stock market at 10:00 Brasília time and closes it at 16:55, with a closing call to 17:00. A winter grid has not been announced, and last year the session was lengthened by one hour from 3 November.
