Chile returns to Berlinale Film Festival 2023 with a large national delegation 

A large national delegation represents Chile at this year’s Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival).

Director Maite Alberdi’s latest film, The Eternal Memory, will be presented as a European premiere in the Panoram section.

The work Quiltro by Vuk Lungulov-Klotz will appear in Generation 14plus.

Both productions have already had a successful screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

In addition, the European Film Market (EFM) surprises this year with a large delegation – including 7 producers supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage – as well as 3 Chileans at Berlinale Talents, 2 projects in Screenings, 2 projects in the Feature Pitches, 5 festivals, 1 platform, and 4 institutions.

The strong Chilean presence will also be led by CinemaChile, which will be present with an on-site booth and a virtual booth, a digital guide, and a powerful team that will carry out a promising program of meetings, press actions, and special coverage of all activities in Berlin, including the Chile Event, organized by the industry brand together with ProChile and Imagen de Chile to promote the delegation and where the Chileans present will have the opportunity to network with various professionals in the industry.

There will also be an exclusive screening of the documentary ‘Soy la tierra’, produced by Fabula and directed by Maite Alberdi.

MAITE ALBERDI’S ‘LA MEMORIA INFINITA’ DEBUTS AT PANORAMA

Following its award-winning screening at Sundance, ‘La Memoria Infinita’ (The Eternal Memory) screens in de section Panorama.

Maite Alberdi’s fifth film explores the theme of Alzheimer’s, which has been present in two of her previous works: the short film ‘Yo No Soy De Aquí’ (2016) and her earlier work ‘El Agente Topo (2020)’, but revisited from the perspective of a married couple.

The film, which won the Grand Jury Prize of World Cinema at Sundance a few weeks ago, highlights the life of actress Paulina (53) and her husband Augusto (70), a journalist.

They have been a couple for 25 years, and eight years ago, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Since then, they have been afraid that the day will come when he will no longer recognize her.
