Brazil’s largest chicken meat producer warns farmers to be careful with bird flu
A Paraná State System of Agriculture team met with local producers to instruct them on how to deal with avian influenza.
The meeting took place last week.
Paraná is the largest Brazilian chicken meat producer, so the authorities fear the damage caused by the disease.
During the meeting, representatives from the Secretariat discussed with Paraná producers strategies to face bird flu.
The contamination inside a farm leads to the extermination of the infected bird and all the other specimens that had direct or indirect contact with it.
Transmission mainly occurs through contact between farm animals and migratory wild birds.
Thus, the only way to avoid damage is to prevent this encounter from occurring.
For this, farmers must reinforce containment measures, such as protecting water sources and feed, monitoring protective screens, and eliminating points that can attract wild birds, such as fruit trees near the fattening sheds.
Paraná is responsible for about 35% of all the poultry protein produced in the country.
Furthermore, Brazilian exporters are the world’s largest suppliers of this food.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, for every 4 kilograms of this item traded in the market between countries, one kilogram will leave Brazil in 2023.
