Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil: Gasoline prices comparison

Uruguay has one of the world’s highest fuel prices for land transportation.

Gasoline in Uruguay is the second most expensive in the whole American continent. Barbados occupies the first place.

As regards diesel oil prices, the only countries on this side of the Atlantic that surpass Uruguay are Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands.

On the other hand, the price of a liter of gasoline in Uruguay is double that of Brazil and exceeds that of Argentina.

The data comes from the Global Petrol Prices website, which gathers the cost of fuel worldwide weekly.

To do so, it carries out an average among the different service stations.

ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE GASOLINE IN THE WORLD

According to the Global Petrol Prices survey, on October 10, a liter of gasoline at Uruguayan service stations costs (on average) about UYU 74.88 or US$1.81.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, each liter of gasoline costs US$0.91, i.e., exactly half the price.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Rio de la Plata, in Argentina, a liter of gasoline costs an average of US$1.

The country with the most expensive fuel in the Americas is Barbados, where gasoline costs an average of US$2.05 per liter.

In the international price list, from highest to lowest, Uruguay appears in 18th place, behind: Hong Kong (US$2.94), Iceland, Central African Republic, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Barbados, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Seychelles, Germany, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Wallis and Futuna, and Israel.

SLIGHTLY CHEAPER DIESEL

Although Uruguay has a high diesel price compared to its neighbors, the difference is much smaller than gasoline.

According to data from Global Petrol Prices, diesel in Uruguay cost, on average, about US$1,58 as of October 10.

While in Argentina, the price of a liter of this fuel was US$1.20, and in Brazil, it was US$1.27.
