Brazil: We will go to war for freedom if we have to, says Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, June 3, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL) said that “if necessary,” he would go to war for freedom. He also affirmed that a “new class” of thieves has arisen in the country: “Those who want to steal our freedom”.

He made these statements during a visit to a stretch of the BR-487 highway in Umuarama, Paraná state.

“All of us here, not only me, have internal problems in Brazil. And today, no longer the money thieves of the past; a new class of thieves has emerged: those who want to steal our freedom,” said the Chief Executive.

“I ask that you become more and more interested in this issue. If necessary, we will go to war, but I want a people by my side who are aware of what they are doing and for whom they are fighting,” Bolsonaro added.

In Paraná, Bolsonaro also said he once again defended the freedom to bear arms.

In his speech, the president criticized members of other branches of government. He said again that “few in the Three Powers Square (Brasília) can do a lot, but none of them can do everything.” He did not mention any names.

“We all have to be informed and prepared because we cannot let Brazil follow the path of some other countries here in South America. I think you know well what I am talking about. It’s the truth,” he said.
