The crop is among the many that put Brazilian farmers in the spotlight.
This bean is part of the daily life of Brazilian farmers, the largest producers in the world coffee market.
The 2023 national harvest should close at 62.5 million tonnes.
Besides being the most expressive mark globally, this quantity corresponds to 36% of the world harvest, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.
The Brazilian production of the crop is concentrated in the Southeast.
Almost 90% of the national harvest occurs in this region.
Minas Gerais has Brazil’s largest coffee bean production: nearly half the country’s total.
Espírito Santo, also in the Southeast, occupies the second position.
The state accounts for about 25% of the national harvest.
São Paulo, also in the region, appears third in the national ranking, with almost 10% of the local harvest.
The productive strength of this crop brings foreign exchange with exports.
In 2022, for example, coffee sales to other countries generated US$9 billion in revenue for Brazil, according to the Agricultural Observatory, maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture.
In the first ten days of April, shipments of the unroasted product earned US$165 million.
In other words, Brazil earned US$41 million per business day from the world coffee market.
