Mexican Stocks Outpaces Latin Peers as Technicals Signal Tentative Recovery
The Mexican S&P/BMV IPC index closed at 56,933.19 on June 25, 2025, rising 0.33% from the prior session. This move came as the IPC continued to outperform most Latin American benchmarks, with a 17.69% gain year-to-date.
This is well ahead of the 5.09% rise in the STOXX Latin America Total Market Index and the 11.06% advance in the STOXX Latin America 200. These figures underscore Mexico’s relative strength in the region, especially as both Brazil and Mexico trade near record highs.
The day’s top gainers included Grupo Carso, up 7.60%, Orbia Advance Corporation, up 4.06%, and Grupo Comercial Chedraui, up 2.87%. Megacable Holdings and Grupo Bimbo also posted strong gains of 2.46% and 2.20%, respectively.
On the losing side, the session saw declines in Promotora Ambiental, Corporativa Fragua, Grupo Mexico, America Movil, and Minera Autlan, reflecting sector rotation and profit-taking after recent rallies.
Technical analysis of the daily IPC chart reveals a market at a crossroads. The index trades above its 200-day moving average, signaling a persistent long-term uptrend. However, the price sits just above the 50-day moving average, which now acts as immediate support.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 48.51 points to a neutral momentum, neither overbought nor oversold. The MACD histogram remains negative but shows signs of narrowing, hinting at fading bearish momentum.
Bollinger Bands have contracted, indicating reduced volatility and no imminent breakout. The Ichimoku cloud shows price action above the cloud base, supporting a cautiously positive outlook.
The four-hour chart confirms these signals. The IPC holds above key support levels, and the RSI at 49.88 suggests a balanced market. The MACD has turned positive, hinting at short-term upward momentum.
Price action remains above the long-term trendline, reinforcing the technical foundation for a potential recovery. Fundamentals support this technical picture. Mexico’s inflation reached 4.51% year-over-year in mid-June, matching forecasts.
The central bank’s benchmark rate stands at 8.5% after three consecutive cuts, easing financing costs and supporting credit growth.
Despite a forecasted 0.4% GDP contraction for 2025, Mexican equities remain attractive due to low valuations and defensive sector weights, with more than 40% of the index in consumer staples and communication services.
Compared to regional peers, the IPC’s performance stands out. The S&P Latin America 40, which includes both Brazilian and Mexican blue chips, fell 0.74% on the same day, while the IPC advanced.
Investors continue to favor Mexico for its stable macro backdrop, strong currency, and defensive market structure. ETF flows remain positive, and trading volumes confirm robust institutional participation.
The IPC’s technical and fundamental signals suggest a market in consolidation, with a cautious bias toward further gains if external risks remain contained.
The index’s ability to hold above key moving averages, coupled with steady volumes and a resilient macro environment, signals that Mexican equities continue to offer value in a volatile regional landscape.
