Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla has expressed concerns about the European Union’s handling of the preparations for the upcoming III EU-CELAC summit, scheduled to take place in Brussels, Belgium, on July 17 and 18.

In a tweet, Rodríguez Parrilla criticized the lack of transparency and what he perceived as manipulative behavior by the European Union, which he believes could undermine the summit’s success.

Despite these concerns, he expressed Cuba’s willingness to participate in the event with a constructive spirit, aiming to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two parties based on equality and mutual respect.

Notably, this summit marks the first meeting between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) leaders and the European Union in eight years, making it a significant event for both regions.

Rodríguez Parrilla further argued that the actions taken by the European Union could hinder the possibility of reaching final agreements at the summit.

He emphasized the importance of respecting CELAC as the united voice of Latin America and the Caribbean, stating that any attempt to impose a biased and Eurocentric perspective on the bi-regional relationship, ignoring the region’s priorities and interests, would not succeed in Brussels.

By raising these concerns, Cuba seeks to address the issues related to the preparation process and ensure that the summit can achieve its objectives.

The constructive engagement of all parties involved is crucial in fostering productive dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and CELAC.
