Confirmed Coronavirus Cases Exceed Six Million Worldwide

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Novel coronavirus infections exceed six million worldwide, according to the latest update from the Johns Hopkins University panel in the United States. In all, there are 6,003,762 people infected, with 367,781 deaths.

The United States continues to account for the highest number of cases and deaths as of May 30th: 1.77 million, and 103,605, respectively. Brazil now ranks second, with 498,440 confirmed cases, but fourth in deaths – 28,834.

Russia is the country in the European continent with the most critical situation in terms of confirmed cases, with 396,575 infections and 4,555 deaths. The United Kingdom, with 38,458 deaths and 274,219 cases, records the highest mortality rate in the Old Continent.

Spain recorded 664 new coronavirus infections on Saturday. In all, there are 239,228 cases of the disease in the country, with 27,125 deaths.

In Italy, there were 416 new confirmed Covid-19 cases on Saturday, a decrease from the 516 confirmed on Friday. In terms of deaths, there were 111 in 24 hours, an increase from 87 on Friday and 70 on Thursday. In total, there are 232,664 confirmed cases and 33,340 deaths in the country that was once the epicenter of the disease in the world.

In Portugal, 13 more people died in the past 24 hours and another 257 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed (231 of them in the Lisbon region).

According to Saturday’s epidemiological report by the Portuguese Directorate General of Health (DGS), a total of 32,203 people have been infected since the start of the pandemic, 19,186 have recovered and 1,396 have died. There are still 514 people hospitalized (13 fewer than on Friday), 63 of whom in intensive care.
