Colombian COLCAP Slides as Sellers Dictate the Tempo
Colombia’s key equity index, the COLCAP, ended July 14, 2025, at 1,689.69, registering a decline of 0.51%.
Data from TradingView charts captured a day where sellers led throughout regular hours, evidenced by firm red candles on both the four-hour and daily intervals.
The market opened near 1,698, failed to gain upward momentum, and drifted lower into the close, with volumes picking up but remaining within typical bounds.
Short-term traders faced a market that revealed shifting sentiment. Price closed below key short-term moving averages (9 and 21-period lines), reflecting a loss of recent bullish bias.
Bollinger Bands widened slightly, with the closing price settling in the lower half—signaling greater volatility but no dramatic flush-out or capitulation. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) rested near 57, indicating momentum faded but the market had not reached oversold status.
The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) histogram moved flat to slightly negative, identifying that sellers gained control but lacked overwhelming force.

The 200-period moving average, a reliable long-term trend gauge, remained upward sloping, underscoring that the multi-month uptrend stays intact despite short-term weakness.
No important support or resistance levels broke during the session. The 1,686 area acted as support, while 1,700 continued to stand as resistance. Price action respected these bands, highlighting trader discipline.
Volumes ticked up on the downside but did not surge, showing increased activity but not panic. ETF flows tracking the Colombian market remained minimal, reflecting global investor hesitation to make big directional bets.
Throughout the day, sector rotation became evident. Leading gainers included Bancolombia and Grupo Argos, both holding up as investors favored stability and consistent dividends.
Conversely, Mineros and Cementos Argos led declines, pressured by concerns about commodity prices and sluggish construction demand.
Select financials and consumer defensives, like Grupo Sura and Grupo Nutresa, managed small gains, while other names like BAC Holding, Corficolombiana, and Terpel lost ground in a quieter trading tape.
Fundamentals provided little catalyst. No meaningful macroeconomic data, currency shocks, or corporate news changed the outlook across the board.
The Colombian peso remained steady versus the US dollar, with foreign exchange markets showing minimal impact on equity values. The day’s narrative reflected a disciplined and risk-aware market environment.
Sellers nudged the index lower, but failed to trigger broader liquidation or a dramatic selloff. In summary, technical indicators, trading volumes, and price action all revealed a session controlled by measured selling and rotation.
The index drifted lower amid a lack of conviction on either side. With the long-term uptrend still intact and no fresh support breaks, local investors and institutions watched for new signals that might define the direction in the coming days.
