Argentine Markets Regain Ground While Key Stocks Lead the Day’s Shifts
The S&P MERVAL Index, the official barometer of Argentina’s stock market, ended July 14, 2025, at 2,064,025.38, with a decisive 2.82% gain according to figures from the Buenos Aires exchange and visualized in verified TradingView technical analysis charts.
Domestic traders concentrated on legal headlines and inflation data. A temporary U.S. court decision stopped the forced YPF stake handover, granting relief and triggering a run on several blue-chip stocks throughout the day.
Energy and industrial leaders led advances, with YPF and Pampa Energía powering gains amid renewed optimism about Argentina’s ability to withstand foreign court pressures.
Resource-linked players like Ternium Argentina also rallied, responding to hints of higher export demand and operational stability. Celulosa Argentina’s strong session represented a sector rotation theme, as investors shifted capital into industrial and manufacturing names.
The losers’ table told another story. Rigolleau, Rosenbusch, Garovaglio y Zorraquín, Grimoldi, and Celulosa Argentina (in a volatile second-line listing) posted notable losses, reflecting a mix of profit-taking, thin liquidity, and shifting sector appetite.

The fall in these names stands out as investors focused on market leaders and turned cautious on stocks with less robust fundamentals or variable liquidity. Volumes rose sharply, with main index names like YPF and Pampa Energía registering the highest trading activity.
This shift in flow followed international investor interest, particularly after the positive legal developments and domestic inflation data surprised on the upside.
MERVAL Shows Technical Recovery Amid Structural Challenges
Technically, the daily chart set the story. The MERVAL rebounded off near-term support at 2,063,000, nearing short-term resistance of 2,090,000.
The MACD indicator showed a momentum improvement, with bullish crossover potential after weeks of weakness. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) moved upwards from 43.7 to 47.1, signaling a swing away from oversold territory but still below the crucial 50 threshold.
Moving averages clustered around current price action, indicating a possible inflection point as buyers and sellers contest direction. The four-hour chart mirrored much of this dynamic.
However, price action remained capped under long-term resistance at 2,219,715, with consolidating volume and an RSI just under neutral.
Bollinger Bands displayed a squeeze, reflecting low volatility after recent swings, which often precedes stronger directional moves. Investors watched volume closely, as a spike would likely confirm any breakout from the current range.
Compared to regional peers, Argentina’s market outperformed several emerging benchmarks, aided by energy gains and legal clarity.
Yet, the index lagged behind the year’s best-performing Asian and U.S. indices, reflecting ongoing structural uncertainties and macro headwinds.
The MERVAL’s fundamentals—including a price-to-earnings ratio of 11.62 and inflation running at 39.4%—kept valuations below several regional benchmarks.
The day’s narrative reveals a market shaped more by domestic fundamentals and legal risks than by global headlines, as local actors braced for further volatility and opportunity.
