Chile’s Stock Market Smashes Records as Peso Slides, Exporters Surge
Official TradingView data and S&P historical records confirm Chile’s S&P IPSA index ended Friday, August 8, 2025, at 8,520.53 points.
This figure represents an all-time high for the index. The rally followed a week marked by strong momentum and concentrated gains in major exporting and commodity-linked companies.
During the last week, the Chilean peso lost value against the US dollar. The USD/CLP exchange rate hovered above key technical marks, mostly staying above the 50- and 100-day moving averages.
The peso’s weakness reflected lower copper prices, weaker export statistics, and local risk aversion. Technical indicators such as MACD pointed to continued downward pressure on the peso.
At times, the relative strength index reached above 58, signaling persistent demand for dollars. Bollinger Bands widened considerably at week’s end, suggesting increased volatility.

The S&P IPSA stock index broke through several resistance levels and left its short- and medium-term moving averages far behind. The index’s relative strength index surged over 72, putting it deep into overbought territory by Friday’s close.
MACD confirmed bullish momentum, and trading volume climbed, solidifying the move. The IPSA closed on Friday at a record, up more than 1% for the week. Price action repeatedly touched or exceeded the upper Bollinger Band, reflecting buyers’ strong conviction.
Big exporting firms, especially copper producers and financial sector names, led the week’s gains. They benefited directly from the weaker peso, which increased the relative value of their foreign revenues.
These names also took advantage of strong capital inflows into Chilean large-cap stocks. The losers of the week came mainly from the domestic retail, consumer, and smaller-cap sector. These stocks lagged as declining consumer optimism and currency headwinds took a toll on local earnings.

For perspective, the IPSA outperformed most Latin American peers for the period. While Brazil’s Bovespa rose modestly, Santiago’s market stood out due to its exporting tilt and large-cap resilience.
Global liquidity flows, as tracked by the NDQ yellow line, spiked in midweek and then reversed sharply. This volatility in international capital directly affected both the peso and large Chilean equities.
Foreign investors rotated out of smaller local firms and poured money into large, internationally-exposed exporters, amplifying price moves.
The week’s clear takeaway is that the Chilean market now pivots on currency moves, global capital flows, and the fortunes of a few big exporters.
While the peso buckled, the stock market delivered a historic high, showing the outsized influence of external money and commodity trends on Chile’s financial landscape.
