Brazil’s Ibovespa Holds Ground as STF Ruling Tempers Legal Fears

According to official data from B3, Banco Central do Brasil, STF, S&P Dow Jones Indices, STOXX, and Nikkei, Brazil’s equity market stabilized after Tuesday’s selloff while global cues stayed mixed.

The Ibovespa closed Wednesday at 134,666.46, up 0.17%, trading between 134,121.67 and 134,963.84. The dólar comercial ended near R$5.47.

Traders repriced local legal risk after the STF reaffirmed that foreign decisions only take effect in Brazil after formal homologation. The court highlighted constitutional limits on extraterritorial acts, which helped calm fears around cross-border enforcement.

Banks stabilized and reduced index volatility. Macro currents stayed clear. The Federal Reserve released minutes for the July 29–30 FOMC meeting and kept the federal funds target at 4.25%–4.50%.

The minutes signaled caution, which capped the dollar and helped local risk assets. Global equity signals were mixed. The S&P 500 fell 0.24% to 6,395.78, while the Nasdaq Composite weakened and the Dow Jones was little changed.

Europe’s STOXX 600 added about 0.20%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped in the morning session today. These moves framed a neutral risk backdrop for Brazil’s open.

Winners and losers were concentrated. PCAR3 +8.62%, UGPA3 +4.35%, AURE3 +4.05%, CMIG4 +3.78%, and RADL3 +3.17% led gains. AZZA3 −3.42%, MRFG3 −3.16%, RAIL3 −3.11%, MGLU3 −2.62%, and MRVE3 −1.80% lagged. B3 reported around R$16.1 bilhões in Ibovespa turnover.

Currency references also aligned. B3’s referential spot showed R$5.4693 on the day, while IPEA’s series showed R$5.4720 for the commercial dollar average. Both confirm a modest real firming versus Tuesday.

Bovespa Holds Steady Amid Technical Indecision

Fundamentals stayed steady. Brazil’s equity proxy EWZ held net assets near US$5.11 bilhões as of June 30, according to iShares materials. Daily fund flows for yesterday were not yet available from the issuer.

Technical view from your charts: On the daily, price remains range-bound between around 132k and 136.5k. The 20-period average and Bollinger midline sit near price, RSI hovers around 50, and MACD improves toward zero, signaling balanced momentum.

On the 4-hour, RSI near 45–50 and a flattening MACD show indecision, with support near 133k–134k and resistance at 135.8k–136.1k. The yellow “Global Liquidity Index NDQ” line on your chart has turned down since early August, which indicates tighter liquidity in that displayed measure.

A close above 136.1k would confirm upside drive, while a break below 133k would risk a retest of 131k. Bottom line: The market priced a practical, mercantile reading of legal risk after the STF clarified jurisdiction.

Global cues stayed mixed ahead of Jackson Hole, and domestic flows remained light. The technical setup argues for patience unless the index decisively exits the 132k–136.5k band.
