Brazil: PT’s nominee for the Mint has already been indicted for fraud

Appointed by the PT of Rio de Janeiro to the presidency of the Casa da Moeda (Mint), Márcio Luís Gonçalves Dias, a government employee, was denounced last October by the Federal Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPF-RJ) for suspected fraud in a contract for the implementation of the Beverage Production Control System (Sicobe), used by the Mint.

Márcio Luís became the target of the Federal Police in 2015 as part of an operation that investigated the suspicion of favoring a company in the tender corresponding to the implementation of Sicobe.

According to the Federal Police, there was a directing of the bidding process through the payment of bribes.

Despite the gravity of the case, the accusation has not yet been examined by the 7th Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro.

The accusation also mentions the crime of embezzlement.

The Mint is linked to the Ministry of Finance, currently headed by Fernando Haddad.

Haddad has already been accused of corruption, and money laundering, and has even been convicted by the TSE for misrepresentation for electoral purposes due to the 2018 presidential elections.
