Venezuela’s Maduro launches “a great campaign” to recover national assets abroad

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, summoned on Monday all political and social movements of his country to start “a great campaign” aimed at rescuing Venezuelan assets abroad, which are being held as a consequence of the sanctions against the nation.

Maduro said that he had prioritized two objectives: “To recover the gold that they intend to steal from us in London and to recover the plane and the crew of Conviasa that is kidnapped and that they intend to steal from us in Argentina”.

Regarding gold, the head of State refers to 31 tons of gold, valued at more than 1 billion dollars, deposited by the state-owned Central Bank of Venezuela in the Bank of England and which were retained in the European city after the United Kingdom did not recognize the authority of the Venezuelan Government.

Likewise, Maduro has prioritized the recovery of a Boeing 747 of the Venezuelan state-owned airline Conviasa, which has been retained in Argentina “by order of an imperial court of the state of Florida in the U.S.” and where its crew made up of 5 Iranians, and 14 Venezuelans were detained.

“We are going to fight a battle with all our social and political communicational weapons, for the gold in London and for the airplane that they have kidnapped and are trying to steal from us shamelessly”, exclaimed the President.

He commented that two months had passed since the retention of the plane and the crew’s detention, while he requested the support of the social movements of the countries of the region to support the referred causes of the Venezuelan Government.

“We are going to articulate a great campaign from Venezuela against the sanctions, against the criminal persecution, for the rescue of the gold in London and for the Conviasa plane that belongs to Venezuela, enough of the abuse against Venezuela”, he reiterated.

He added that his country is ready to face Washington’s sanctions: “we are people of peace, of respect, of cooperation, we offer solidarity, cooperation and help to the peoples of the world; we always extend our hand, but if we have to turn a hand into a fist, we will do it to defend the sacred interests of Venezuela”.
