German Volkswagen prepares new investment in Mexico

German automaker Volkswagen (VW) wants to position its plant in Puebla, Mexico, as one of the most modern in the entire European automotive consortium and plans to invest nearly US$1 billion to that end.

The group wants to expand its industrial building to carry out more engineered manufacturing and focus on its electrification plans.

During a meeting between the president and CEO of “Volkswagen de México”, Holger Nestler, and the governor Miguel Barbosa to fine-tune the details of the investment of the German automaker in the state, it was reported that the amount of capital could correspond to the construction of a new plant, even though it was said that the announcement would be made in the last quarter of 2022.

The Puebla government said that the German investment includes cutting-edge technology projects in the paint shop, which Volkswagen will use for the first time in the world, as well as the development of stampings.

This investment is consolidated thanks to the infrastructure, human capital, connectivity, public safety, and economic and political stability offered by the State of Puebla, which allowed the project to prevail over other assembly plants of the group at the national and global levels.
