Brazil: 2022 harvest will reach record 261.7 million tons, says IBGE

The 2022 agricultural crop is expected to total a record 261.7 million tons, 8.5 million tons more than the 2021 performance, an increase of 3.3%. The data are from the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production in August, released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The result is 1.75 million tons less than forecast in the previous survey, in July, a drop of 0.7%.

AREA TO BE HARVESTED

According to the IBGE, Brazilian producers should harvest 73.0 million hectares in the 2022 crop, an increase of 65% compared to the area harvested in 2021. In relation to the July estimate, the area to be harvested grew 0. 1%.

ITEMS

Rice, corn and soybeans are the three main products of the harvest, which together represent 91.5% of the estimated production and 87.1% of the area to be harvested.

In relation to 2021, there were increases of 9.8% in the area to be harvested for corn (up 7.7% in the first harvest of the grain and 10.5% in the second harvest), of 17.7% in the area of herbaceous cotton, 4.7% for soybeans and 9.0% for wheat.

In the opposite direction, there was a decrease in the expectation of rice harvested area (-2.6%).
