Bolsonaro, Mourão and Lira are abroad and Congress president commands Brazil

National Congress President Rodrigo Pacheco assumed the presidency of the Republic for four days on Saturday (Sept. 17), as Jair Bolsonaro, Vice President Hamilton Mourão, and Chamber of Deputies President Arthur Lira were traveling abroad.

It is the third time in the line of deputies to take office.

The electoral law stipulates that candidates may not hold the office of President of the Republic in the six months preceding the election.

Hamilton Mourão is running for a seat in the Rio Grande do Sul Senate, and Arthur Lira is seeking re-election as a federal congressman.

President Jair Bolsonaro has been in London, England, since Sunday (Sept. 18) to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

He will also attend the reception hosted by British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Secretary James Cleverly.

On Monday (Feb. 19) at 1 pm (5 pm London time), Bolsonaro will travel to New York (U.S.), where he will attend the opening of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

Vice President Hamilton Mourão traveled to Lima, Peru.

He will remain in the Peruvian country until Dec. 20. He will meet with Peruvian Vice President Dina Boluarte and attend Expoalimentaria Perú 2022 – a food fair featuring Brazilian producers.

The president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira, is in New York, USA. He will attend a UN event and return to Brazil with the presidential delegation.
