Brazil experiences foreign trade gains and inflation slowdown

Brazil has witnessed gains in foreign trade over the past three months, benefiting from the reopening of the Asian market and increased income due to social benefit payments, according to Luciana Servo, the president of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea), reported by Poder360.

These findings will be published in the forthcoming Conjuncture Letter Overview, which analyzes the macroeconomic situation.

Luciana Servo emphasized the positive outcomes of increased exports, which contribute to Brazil’s economic growth by bringing in foreign resources.

The reopening of the Chinese market after the pandemic and recovering western economies that are purchasing more Brazilian goods have played a significant role in this gain.

During the pandemic, some economies withdrew from the market, creating opportunities for Brazil to secure these markets in terms of soy and oil.

Additionally, the Conjuncture Letter Overview will highlight a lower-than-expected inflationary scenario.

Luciana Servo mentioned a slowdown in the inflation process, driven by reduced administered prices, particularly in fuel and electricity.

As a result, the projected inflation for the period is lower than initially anticipated, both for the month and the previous 12 months.

The Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA), used to adjust contracts, is now approaching 5% compared to the previous figure above 5.5%.

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) has also decreased due to declining food prices.

The document also touches on the impact of Brazil’s current interest rate, which stands at 13.75% per year.

This high rate has hindered the recovery of purchasing power for families and businesses.

Luciana Servo emphasized the need for advancements in the country’s monetary policy to encourage lower interest rates, supporting investments and boosting consumption.

Overall, Brazil’s recent gains in foreign trade, coupled with a lower inflationary outlook and discussions about interest rate reductions, paint a positive picture for the country’s economic prospects, says Servo.
