Brazil and Venezuela move forward in the reestablishment of their political and diplomatic relations
The Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister for Latin America, Rander Peña, held a meeting this Monday with the Brazilian Chargé d’Affaires in Caracas, Flavio Maceira, with whom he discussed issues of binational interest within the framework of the progressive reestablishment of bilateral relations.
The rapprochements between Venezuela and Brazil occurred after political relations were broken for over three years due to former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro’s disregard forr Venezuelan authorities.
“The relationship with Brazil was dormant for several years, after the arrival of a president who did not know the relations with his neighboring countries, ” stated Deputy Foreign Minister Peña after a meeting with the diplomat of his neighboring country.

Peña assured that with the arrival of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the Brazilian Government, “we are now in a new moment of diplomacy, and both presidents (Nicolás Maduro and Lula da Silva) have prioritized the relationship”.
After the meeting, the Venezuelan official declared: “I am sure that we are going to increase commercial, agricultural, cultural, and political exchanges between both countries”.
He assured that his expectations are favorable for the bilateral relationship and, in that sense, said that “good news is coming for the peoples of Venezuela and Brazil”.
In recent days, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil met in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, during the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit.
The Venezuelan Government has stated on several occasions that the assumption of Lula to the Brazilian Government and other progressive leaders in the region represents new opportunities to favor integration mechanisms among the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
