Brazil: high inflation and the drop in the GDP projection bring down the Ibovespa
Ibovespa, the main index of the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3), ended the first trading session of the week down 0.37%, at 101,000 points.
The dollar ended the day stable and maintained its quotation at R$5.07.
Among the movements that help the poor performance of the indicator are:
- the rise in oil prices occurred due to the announcement of a reduction in the production of the commodity by OPEC+:
- the rise in the inflation projection,
- and the drop in the expectation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The projection for the IPCA went from 5.93% to 5.96%, contributing to the fall of Ibovespa.
It is the fourth week in which the indicator projection has increased, even with the Selic rate remaining at 13.75% per month.
On the other hand, the expectation for the GDP fell from 1.48% to 1.40%.
This increases concern about a possible stagnation of economic growth in the country.
DOLLAR
The dollar showed signs of recovery after falling in the last six sessions.
The US currency accumulated a 4.16% drop, the longest losing streak since March 25, 2022.
The variation in oil price, which tends to affect more fragile currencies, also contributed to the dollar’s respite.
