Strong Peso and Record Stocks Put Mexico in Focus

Mexico’s financial markets delivered a clear signal over the past day: global investors increasingly see the country as a haven for their money.

The Mexican peso jumped to 18.35 per US dollar, marking its seventh straight day of gains and its strongest value in a year. This move did not come out of nowhere.

With the US dollar losing ground globally due to expectations that the US central bank will lower its key interest rate, investors turned to the peso for better returns and stability.

Official technical charts show money moved decisively into the peso, pushing the dollar toward new lows against it. Key indicators like the 14-day Relative Strength Index measure the strength of price swings.

The RSI hit 28, the lowest in months, signaling the market sees the dollar as oversold and momentum heavily favors the peso. Other metrics, such as MACD and major moving averages, confirm this downward trend for the dollar, pointing to strong and broad support for the peso.

On the equities side, the S&P/BMV IPC—the main Mexican stock market index—set a new record, finishing at 62,102 points with a 0.49% gain. Solid results from consumer and industrial giants led this rise.

Wal-Mart de Mexico climbed 2.89%, Grupo Carso added 2.59%, and Banorte rose 1.90%. Meanwhile, real estate and airport stocks suffered: Corporacion Inmobiliaria Vesta fell 3.08%, Grupo Aeroportuario del CentroNorte slipped 3.06%, and Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste lost 2.23%.

Compared to peers, Mexico’s markets stood out. The peso gained while most other emerging market currencies lagged. Investors chose Mexico not for stories or slogans but because of concrete advantages: high interest rates, low inflation, and stable economic policy.

Behind these moves lies a basic story: with global uncertainty, investors look for straightforward places to safeguard and grow their capital.

Mexico’s mix of policy stability and attractive returns has made it a winner this September, with neither hype nor fear at the wheel—just facts, numbers, and smart money following the signals.
