Silver Holds Firm Below $33 as Supply Squeeze and Industrial Demand Shape Market
Silver traded at $32.93 per ounce on April 30, 2025, according to the latest data from Trading Economics and Macrotrends. This price marks a slight pullback of 0.26% from the previous day, reflecting a cautious mood after weeks of volatility.
The chart from TradingView shows silver testing its 50-day moving average near $32.50, a key technical support level, while struggling to break above the $33.00 resistance.
The market’s recent movements stem from a mix of global economic signals and supply-demand dynamics. Since the start of 2025, silver has climbed nearly 14%, outpacing many commodities and drawing new interest from traders and industrial buyers.
The price rally earlier this year followed gold’s record run. However, silver’s resilience during gold’s April pullback signaled a possible shift in market structure. While gold fell sharply, silver dipped only 0.5% and briefly broke $33 before settling lower.
This divergence highlights silver’s dual role as both a safe-haven and an industrial metal. Industrial demand continues to underpin the market. The photovoltaic sector now accounts for 12% of annual silver consumption, and each gigawatt of solar capacity requires about 20 metric tons.

Electronics and renewable energy manufacturers remain steady buyers, even as Chinese manufacturing data showed contraction in April. This slowdown raised concerns about future industrial demand, but so far, it has not triggered a major selloff.
Supply constraints remain a central theme. Global silver production has declined over the past decade, falling from 1.07 billion ounces in 2010 to an estimated 1.03 billion in 2024.
Demand has consistently outpaced supply since 2021, with a 2023 deficit of 184 million ounces and another shortfall expected this year. Mexico and Russia, which together produce over a fifth of the world’s silver, face regulatory and geopolitical headwinds.
Silver Market Overview
Mexico’s mining reforms have already trimmed projected output, adding to the squeeze. ETF flows show little movement this week, as investors wait for clarity on US economic data and US-China trade talks.
The upcoming release of the US PCE price index and first-quarter GDP could influence Federal Reserve policy and, by extension, precious metals prices. Meanwhile, the US dollar’s recent strength has dampened dollar-denominated metals, but not enough to reverse silver’s gains.
Technical traders watch the $33 threshold closely. A sustained move above this level could trigger algorithmic buying and push prices toward $35 or higher.
For now, silver’s price action reflects a market balancing tight supply, strong industrial demand, and global economic uncertainty. Business buyers and investors continue to accumulate on dips, betting that the fundamentals remain in their favor.
