Rio Carnival 2025 Breaks Records with Best Hotel Occupancy of the Decade

Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival 2025 achieved historic hotel occupancy rates, reaching 98.62% in the city, according to HotéisRIO and ABIH-RJ.

This figure represents a significant jump from 86.92% in 2024, underscoring the event’s growing appeal and its importance to the local economy. The city center led occupancy rates with 99.37%, driven by its proximity to samba school parades and street blocos.

Other neighborhoods also saw near-capacity bookings, including Leme/Copacabana (99.18%), Flamengo/Botafogo (99.05%), Ipanema/Leblon (98.82%), and Barra da Tijuca/Recreio/São Conrado (96.69%). Beyond the capital, Rio’s interior recorded an 87.74% occupancy rate, up from 81.24% in 2024.

Municipal authorities estimate that Carnival generated R$5.7 billion ($950 million) for Rio’s economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, bars, and shopping centers. Nationwide, the event contributed R$12.03 billion ($2 billion), a 2.1% increase over last year’s figures.

Rio Carnival’s Economic Impact

The festivities created over 50,000 jobs across sectors like hospitality, tourism, and security. Foreign tourists played a key role in this success, particularly Argentinians, who accounted for 25.8% of international visitors to Brazil during Carnival.

Among them, 41.2% chose Rio as their primary destination, infusing the city with a noticeable “sotaque portenho.” Embratur projected that Carnival would attract 286,879 international tourists to Brazil this year.

Alfredo Lopes, president of HotéisRIO, attributed the success to effective public safety measures and seamless event planning. He noted that investments in security ensured a peaceful atmosphere for millions of revelers enjoying street parties and parades.

The Sambadrome parades alone drew approximately 120,000 spectators over multiple nights, with ticket prices ranging from $14 to $1,000 depending on seating preferences. Meanwhile, street parties sponsored by major brands like Ambev added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Rio’s Carnival remains a cultural and economic powerhouse, attracting millions annually while boosting local businesses and tourism revenue. The record-breaking hotel occupancy rates highlight its enduring global appeal and its vital role in Brazil’s economy.
