Rio Botanical Garden to Reopen for Public Visits on Thursday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As of Thursday, July 9th, the Botanical Garden, one of the largest and most beautiful green areas in Rio de Janeiro, located in the southern part of the city, will be gradually reopened to avoid crowds. According to the institute in charge of the area, activities will be restarted in four stages, complying with the “golden rules” imposed by Rio’s City Hall.

At this first moment, visitors must make an appointment through the Botanical Garden‘s official website. The number of people in each available schedule will be limited and once the capacity is fully reached, the system will automatically close.

Regarding new features, the space will reopen the Atlantic Forest trail, where visitors will learn about 27 species of the biome that covers the Garden’s living collection.

Rules to visit the Botanical Garden:

• Mandatory wearing of protective mask covering mouth and nose;
• Distance of two meters between visitors;
• Hygienization of hands before and after each activity.

Schedule to buy tickets:

In order to buy tickets at the box office, a prior booking through the Botanical Garden’s official website is required, and the chosen time must be respected. For instance, if a visitor has chosen to visit the venue from 9 to 10 AM, he/she must purchase the ticket at the box office within this time, and on the scheduled day. Regarding payment, only cash will be accepted, with the entrance ticket costing R$15 (full) and R$7.50 (half).

Visiting guidelines and rules

• It is advisable to bring one’s own water, as drinking fountains are sealed as a precautionary measure;
• The ‘Arboreto’ (Arboretum), the ‘Cactário’ (Cactus and Succulents) and the ‘Bromeliário’ (Bromeliad garden) are available for visitation; other collections and areas with some degree of enclosure remain closed;
• Snacks are only allowed at the Children’s Playground tables;
• Playground equipment will not be suitable for use;
• Guided tours, with or without an electric cart, are suspended.
