Man Arrested in Rio with Files of Sexual Violence Against Children

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Monday, July 6th, the Federal Police (PF) arrested a 68-year-old man in Campo Grande, in western Rio de Janeiro. The arrest occurred during the execution of a search and seizure warrant issued by the 3rd District Federal Criminal Court.

According to the Federal Police, the man lived and looked after a deactivated school in the neighborhood and with him, several files containing footage of sexual violence against children were found. He was arrested in the act of committing a crime based on article 241-B of the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), which establishes a sentence of imprisonment of one to four years.

The Federal Police also reported that during investigations, which began at the start of the year, the Cyber Crimes Repression Group (GRCC) found that in addition to storing, the man provided and shared files with scenes of sexual abuse and exploitation of children and adolescents over the Internet on an international network.

The seized material will be forwarded for expert examination. The PF wants to determine if the prisoner also practiced other crimes, such as the production of the files. If this is confirmed, he will be charged with another crime provided for in the ECA, and further aggravated by the penalty for rape of vulnerable legal subjects, provided for in article 217-A of the criminal code. The prisoner’s identity has not been disclosed.
