Peru closes land borders with Colombia, Bolivia and Brazil; opens them for Chile and Ecuador

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The government temporarily closed the land borders with Colombia, Bolivia, and Brazil. It opened them for the entry of residents from Ecuador and Chile, complying with the necessary protocols that measure implemented from December 1.

The measure was adopted in the DS 174-2021-PCM, which establishes the suspension of the entry of passengers by land from Bolivia, Colombia, and Brazil, but not by air.

The regulation states that cargo and merchandise transportation is not affected.

“Peruvians and foreign residents may enter the national territory from these countries complying with the protocols approved by the National Health Authority, in coordination with the competent authorities,” the measure details.

On the other hand, the measure also allows the opening of the border with Ecuador and Chile, complying with the protocols that the National Health Authority approves in coordination with the competent authorities.

“Those over 18 years of age who wish to enter the country must prove, physically or digitally, that they have completed their vaccination schedule in Peru and/or abroad. In case of not having the complete scheme, or not being able to prove it, the entry will be allowed if they prove to have a negative molecular test (PCR), whose result was obtained within 72 hours before entering Peru,” details the measure.

Those persons showing symptoms upon entering the national territory will be placed in mandatory isolation.

AIR TRANSPORTATION

The regulation states that regardless of the country they come from, passengers must have completed their vaccination schedule fourteen days before boarding. Otherwise, they may present their negative molecular test within 72 hours before boarding at the point of origin. In the case of children under twelve years of age, they only need to be symptom-free to board.

The entry of people coming from South Africa or who have made a stopover in the last fourteen days is suspended until December 12. If Peruvians or foreigners coming from that country enter the national territory, they must undergo mandatory quarantine at their home, lodging, or another temporary isolation center for 14 calendar days.
