In a cautious start to the week, oil markets showed signs of stabilization on Monday, April 14, 2025. The Brent crude oil benchmark opened at $64.335 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude began trading at $60.44003.

These figures reflect a slight recovery from recent lows but remain well below the peaks seen earlier this year. The ongoing trade dispute between the United States and China continues to cast a shadow over global oil markets.

Investors remain wary as both economic giants exchange retaliatory measures, dampening prospects for global economic growth and oil demand. The prolonged conflict has already caused significant price drops in recent weeks.

Both Brent and WTI have lost approximately $10 per barrel since the start of the month. Despite the overall downward pressure, oil prices managed to find some support last week.

Both benchmarks closed with gains exceeding 2% on Friday, following statements from US officials regarding potential restrictions on Iranian oil exports. However, this uptick proved insufficient to reverse the broader downward trend that has gripped the market.

Technical analysis of the day’s trading reveals a narrow range for both benchmarks. Brent crude fluctuated between a high of $64.515 and a low of $64.295, ultimately settling at $64.395, down 0.09% for the session.

WTI crude displayed similar volatility, reaching a high of $60.59164 and a low of $60.41181, before closing at $60.50375, up 0.11% for the day.

The charts for both Brent and WTI crude show a clear downward trajectory since early April, with prices struggling to break above recent resistance levels. This pattern suggests that bearish sentiment continues to dominate the market, despite occasional short-lived rallies.

Oil Price Dynamics Amid Geopolitical Tensions

Market analysts point to several factors contributing to the current oil price dynamics. The escalating trade war between the US and China remains the primary concern.

Recent tariff increases by both sides have fueled fears of a global economic slowdown. Additionally, the decision by OPEC+ to increase production has added to supply-side pressures, further weighing on prices.

Looking ahead, traders and investors will closely monitor developments in US-China trade negotiations, as well as any shifts in OPEC+ production policies.

The potential for renewed sanctions on Iranian oil exports also looms as a wild card that could significantly impact market dynamics in the coming weeks. As the oil market navigates these uncertain waters, industry experts caution that volatility is likely to persist.

The interplay between geopolitical tensions, trade disputes, and supply-demand fundamentals will continue to shape oil price movements in the near term, presenting both challenges and opportunities for market participants.
