The Jimmy Carr South Africa tour is confirmed for two nights, Saturday 13 March 2027 in Pretoria and Sunday 14 March in Cape Town. The British comedian brings his show Laughs Funny to two big arenas, and tickets are on sale now.
Americans who know him from Netflix can see him live on a trip that may also include a safari or the Cape coast. This guide lists the dates, venues and ticket sellers, and says what the promoter has not yet confirmed.
In Plain English
Jimmy Carr is a British stand-up comedian known for fast, dark one-liners. His current show is called Laughs Funny, and the Jimmy Carr South Africa dates are two nights in March 2027.
Big Concerts is the South African company that promotes the shows. Ticketmaster South Africa is the ticket seller that sells them together with the promoter’s own website.
Pretoria is South Africa’s administrative capital, in Gauteng province. The show is at the Sunbet Arena in the Time Square complex in Menlyn Maine.
Cape Town is the Western Cape’s best-known city for visitors. The Cape Town show is at the Grand Arena inside the GrandWest entertainment complex.
Who Jimmy Carr Is and Why This Tour Matters
Jimmy Carr says on his own website that he has done stand-up in more than fifty countries. He was the first British comedian to sign a stand-up deal with Netflix, in 2015.
Americans can find his Netflix specials Funny Business (2016), His Dark Material (2021) and Natural Born Killer (2024). His site says he has more than 25 years in stand-up.
The promoter calls him one of the biggest-selling comedy acts in the world. It describes the show as fast-paced, edgy one-liners from a comedian whose dark humour is not for everyone.
For a US reader the draw is simple, because the two dates sit in the middle of a southern-hemisphere summer trip. The Jimmy Carr South Africa dates fit around a safari, a wine-region stay or a beach week.
Dates, Times and Where to Buy Tickets
The first Jimmy Carr South Africa show is on Saturday 13 March 2027 at the Sunbet Arena in Pretoria. Doors open at 18:00 and the show starts at 20:00 South African time.
The second show is on Sunday 14 March 2027 at the Grand Arena at GrandWest in Cape Town. Doors open at 19:00 and the show starts at 20:00.
Tickets for the Jimmy Carr South Africa shows went on general sale at 09:00 on Friday 2 October 2026. The only sellers named by the promoter are ticketmaster.co.za and bigconcerts.co.za.
A presale for Big Concerts Fan Club members ran from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October. The promoter’s page lists no prices, so check both sites for seat categories.
Buy only from the two named sellers, because a ticket from anyone else is a risk you cannot check from abroad. Each city has one show listed, so book both nights early if you want to see the tour in both cities.
The Pretoria Venue at Time Square
The Pretoria stop of the Jimmy Carr South Africa tour is the Sunbet Arena. Its owner, Sun International, calls it an 8,500-seat venue with four private hospitality suites inside Time Square, which opened in April 2017.
Time Square also has a hotel with 3-star, 4-star and 5-star rooms under one roof, plus restaurants and bars. That makes it possible to sleep, eat and see the show in the same building.
The complex houses a casino, which the owner calls the largest in Tshwane, the city municipality that includes Pretoria. The owner says no one under 18 may gamble there.
The Cape Town Venue at GrandWest
The Cape Town night takes place in the Grand Arena, which can seat up to 5,000 people or hold 7,000 standing, according to Sun International. The owner also lists a capacity of 6,866.
GrandWest calls itself the largest entertainment destination in South Africa. It has a casino, the Grand Hotel, restaurants and the only indoor ice-skating rink in the Western Cape.
The resort lists +27 21 505 7777 as its phone number. The Cape Town Cycle Tour is also on Sunday 14 March, so book a hotel early.
Tips for US Visitors
The US State Department says Americans need no visa for visits of 90 days or less. It also says your passport must have two consecutive completely blank visa pages on every arrival.
South Africa runs on SAST, two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time all year. It is seven hours ahead of New York on Saturday 13 March and six hours on Sunday 14 March, when US clocks move forward.
The 20:00 start in Pretoria is therefore 1 p.m. in New York on Saturday. The 20:00 start in Cape Town is 2 p.m. in New York on Sunday.
The State Department advises increased caution in South Africa because of crime and civil unrest. It tells visitors to avoid walking alone after dark and to take extreme care when driving at night.
Keep car doors locked and windows closed, as the State Department advises. Plan your ride home before the show ends instead of looking for one in the dark.
The State Department gives 10111 as the local equivalent of 911 in South Africa. The US Consulate General in Cape Town is at 2 Reddam Avenue, West Lake.
What It Means for You
Americans who plan a South African trip around March 2027 can use the Jimmy Carr South Africa shows as a fixed anchor. Pretoria suits a night stop on the way to a safari, while Cape Town suits a longer holiday.
The Cape Town date is also the day of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, so expect a busy city on Sunday. Read our guide to the Cape Town Cycle Tour before you book a hotel.
Visa-exempt visitors can also look at the optional online permit. Our explainer on the South Africa travel authorisation for Americans covers the fee and who should apply.
Remember that the content is adult comedy, and the promoter itself says some people find his humour dark. No age limit is published, so check before you bring children.
What Is Not Confirmed Yet
The promoter’s page publishes no ticket prices or seat categories, so check both ticket sellers for the current price list. Prices in rand will be converted to US dollars here once they are confirmed.
No age restriction, support act or show length is published for either night. Whether a third South African date will be added is not known.
Whether the shows will sell out is not known. This guide will be updated if the promoter publishes more details.
