Israel Blocks Humanitarian Exit Through Gaza, Egypt Announces

On Monday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, announced that Israel has not yet agreed to open its border with Gaza.

Initially, there was a high hope for creating a humanitarian corridor. This would have allowed civilians in Gaza to evacuate through the Egyptian border.

Despite this expectation, Israel confirmed that a ceasefire isn’t on the table right now.

Early on Monday, trucks with UN flags made an appearance near the border. Even so, the gateway between Egypt and Gaza remained firmly shut.

The standstill continues to affect evacuation plans for various nations, including Brazil.

Turning to Brazil, Celso Amorim, a Special Advisor to the President, shed some light on the situation.

According to him, Brazil’s plans for evacuating its citizens from Gaza hinge on a three-way agreement.

Specifically, Israel, Egypt, and the United States would need to reach a consensus for the humanitarian corridor.

Amorim clarified that Brazil has taken all possible steps to enable this evacuation. These steps include logistical arrangements and political efforts.

Now, the Brazilian government is in a waiting phase. It hopes for a green light that will allow Brazilian citizens to move from Gaza to Egypt.

Following that, the evacuees will make their way back to Brazil.

Brazilian Government Is Waiting

Amorim also pointed out a significant concern. The worst-case scenario would involve Egypt giving a passage to other countries but excluding Brazil.

Nevertheless, he remains optimistic. He cited Brazil’s favorable diplomatic relations with Egypt as a reason for this optimism.

In a broader context, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East ignited when Hamas launched an attack on Israel.

In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and initiated a series of airstrikes targeting Gaza.

This military action has resulted in thousands of casualties.

The situation has drawn international attention, with countries like the United States and European nations advising others to stay out of the conflict.
