WHO Warns of Immediate Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The World Health Organization (WHO) is raising alarm bells and say Gaza has less than 24 hours of water, electricity, and fuel.

Ahmed al-Mandhari, a WHO official, makes it clear in an interview with the AFP agency. Without quick aid, doctors will prepare death certificates for patients.

Right now, supply convoys can’t move. They’re stuck at Rafah, a border town between Gaza and Egypt.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shukry, points out the issue. He says Israel is not cooperating and keeps bombing the area.

Earlier this month, Israel did something severe. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant cut off Gaza’s essential supplies. This action was a response to an attack by Hamas.

The human cost is high and rising. So far, 4,207 people have died in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

This number includes Palestinians and Israelis. Moreover, at least 14,200 people are injured.

The conflict hit its one-week mark recently. This prolongs the suffering in the regions involved.

Background

The World Health Organization (WHO) is raising alarm bells and say Gaza has less than 24 hours of water, electricity, and fuel.

On Monday, Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, announced that Israel has not yet agreed to open its border with Gaza.

Initially, there was a high hope for creating a humanitarian corridor. This would have allowed civilians in Gaza to evacuate through the Egyptian border.

Despite this expectation, Israel confirmed that a ceasefire isn’t on the table right now.

Early on Monday, trucks with UN flags made an appearance near the border. Even so, the gateway between Egypt and Gaza remained firmly shut.

The standstill continues to affect evacuation plans for various nations, including Brazil.

Turning to Brazil, Celso Amorim, a Special Advisor to the President, shed some light on the situation.

According to him, Brazil’s plans for evacuating its citizens from Gaza hinge on a three-way agreement.
