Colombian president Petro and Biden meet in Washington

By · April 21, 2023 · 2 min read

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, affirmed this Thursday before his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, that Colombia is “key” as a partner in Ibero-America.

“I believe we can further deepen and develop our cooperation,” Biden told Petro, who, for his part, said that both the United States and Colombia share “a common agenda” in which “democracy, freedom, and peace” are paramount.

The two exchanged comments before a closed-door meeting in which they will discuss, among other issues, the fight against drug trafficking, policies against climate change, and the sanctions against Venezuela.

“Great friends,” the Colombian president posted a photo of the meeting on his Twitter profile.
