Chilean Peso Holds Near 962; IPSA Hovers at Record Zone as Dollar Softens
Chile’s peso and equities entered Tuesday steady after a headline-driven overnight move in the dollar. The central bank’s “dólar observado” prints 962.51 pesos for August 26, 2025, versus 964.15 on August 25.
The IPSA closed 8,883.36 on Monday, as shown on the exchange’s index page and the chart provided. That level keeps the index near recent highs, while turnover concentrates in large, liquid names typical for the benchmark.
A formal letter dated August 25, 2025 notified Governor Lisa D. Cook of her dismissal from the Federal Reserve Board. The archive reproduces the White House letter.
The event coincided with a softer ICE U.S. Dollar Index overnight, which eased pressure on export-sensitive currencies including the peso. From a mercantile angle, two forces now pull at USD/CLP.
The weaker global dollar helps the peso, yet Chile’s terms-of-trade hinge on copper prices and portfolio flows. The central bank’s daily series shows the peso modestly firmer versus Monday, which aligns with the dollar’s softer tone.
Technical read — USD/CLP (last 24h and daily):
The four-hour chart centers near 964, with price straddling short EMAs. MACD sits around the zero line. RSI holds near the mid-50s, which signals range behavior.

The daily chart shows Bollinger Bands narrowing around 960–970, consistent with compression. Support sits at 958–960, then 952–953.
Resistance appears at 970 and 978–985. The yellow “Global Liquidity Index NDQ” line on the chart drifted lower into late August, which aligns with the recent volatility squeeze shown by narrower bands.
Technical read — IPSA (last 24h and daily):
The four-hour view keeps an up-channel from early August. Momentum cooled from intraday overbought, but trend remains intact above the rising 20-period EMA.
The daily chart shows expanding ranges after the breakout above 8,750–8,800. RSI sits in overbought territory on the daily plot, which argues for shallow pullbacks while MACD remains positive. Support tracks 8,780–8,750. Near-term resistance comes into 8,950–9,000.
Peers and benchmarks:
S&P Dow Jones Indices classifies the IPSA within its Americas equity family, which allows comparison with regional peers tracked by the same provider, including S&P/BMV IPC and other Latin benchmarks.

IPSA’s latest advance keeps Chile alongside the stronger ends of the region’s large-midcap complex this month, per index pages dated through August 25, 2025.
Winners and losers:
The exchange publishes “Principales alzas/bajas” and a daily bulletin with the session’s top risers, decliners, and most-traded names.
As of press time, the official board and bulletin for August 25 remain the authoritative sources for that ranking; we will only report those figures when retrieved directly from the exchange publications.
Bottom line:
Official series show the peso firmer versus Monday and the IPSA near highs. Charts indicate range-bound USD/CLP unless 960 breaks, and buy-the-dip IPSA while above 8,750.
The mercantile takeaway: a softer global dollar helps funding and trade pricing, but copper and local flows still set the day’s bias.
