Brazil’s B3 stock exchange closed the June 16 session with a notable 1.49% gain, ending at 139,255.91 points. This performance, confirmed by official B3 data and central bank releases, reflects a day marked by resilient domestic economic indicators and a shift in global risk sentiment.

The Ibovespa index approached the 140,000 mark during intraday trading, supported by a stronger-than-expected IBC-Br reading, which tracks Brazil’s economic activity, and easing tensions in the Middle East.

The Central Bank’s IBC-Br index rose 0.2% in April, beating the 0.1% forecast and showing 4% growth year-over-year. The services sector led gains, while agriculture and industry contracted.

These figures reinforced the view that Brazil’s economy retains momentum despite high borrowing costs. The market’s focus now turns to the central bank’s interest rate decision, with most economists expecting the Selic rate to remain at 14.75%.

Some forecasts, however, see further hikes possible if inflation expectations worsen. Fiscal policy developments also influenced sentiment.

The government advanced a new tax package, aiming to raise R$10 billion in 2025 by changing rules on interest on equity, increasing taxes for insurers and fintechs, and broadening the tax base for fixed-income instruments.

These measures, set for phased implementation, target fiscal consolidation but may affect financial sector profitability. Globally, markets found relief as Middle East tensions eased after a weekend of limited military exchanges between Israel and Iran.

Oil and gold prices, which spiked on initial conflict news, retreated as investors shifted back into equities. This risk-on mood supported gains across major indices, including the B3.

Technical analysis of the Ibovespa’s daily and 4-hour charts reveals a decisive upward move. The daily chart shows the index breaking above resistance near 137,250, with the close near the upper Bollinger Band.

The MACD indicator turned positive, and the RSI climbed to 61.53, signaling renewed momentum but not yet overbought conditions. The 4-hour chart confirms this breakout, with the MACD histogram strengthening and RSI at 61.96.

Both timeframes show price action above key moving averages and the Ichimoku cloud, indicating a robust bullish trend. Volume data shows advancing stocks outnumbered decliners, confirming broad market participation.

The most traded stock, B3SA3, closed at 13.54, about 10% below its 52-week high, with average volume near 52 million shares. First-quarter results showed revenue up 7.5% and net income up 17% year-on-year, though earnings per share missed analyst expectations by 3%.

In summary, B3’s strong session reflects a combination of solid economic fundamentals, improving fiscal outlook, and favorable technical signals. Investors now await the central bank’s rate decision and further developments in fiscal policy and global markets.
