TradingView data from April 10, 2025, shows the Ibovespa hovering at 127,690 points, down just 0.01% after Wednesday’s explosive 3.12% surge.

The index traded sideways between 127,590 and 127,785 points as investors digested the previous day’s dramatic developments. Donald Trump triggered Wednesday’s market celebration by unexpectedly suspending universal import tariffs for 90 days.

The US president also reduced tariffs to 10% for 75 countries while escalating duties on Chinese goods to 125%. Markets interpreted this targeted approach as less damaging than blanket tariffs.

Retail giant Companhia Brasileira De Distribuição led Wednesday’s winners with an 18.89% jump to R$3.65. Education provider Cogna Educação followed with an 11.94% gain to R$2.25. Popular e-commerce platform Magazine Luiza rounded out the top performers with an 11.28% surge to R$9.77.

Few stocks bucked the upward trend. CPFL Energia and Automob Participações remained unchanged at R$38.70 and R$0.24 respectively. Santos Brasil Participações barely moved, gaining just 0.08% to R$13.33.

Market heavyweights Vale and Petrobras significantly contributed to the index’s recovery. Mining leader Vale jumped 5% while state-oil firm Petrobras gained 4%. These moves helped Petrobras reclaim R$17 billion in market value after shedding R$80 billion across five previous sessions.

Market Rally Boosts Brazilian Real and Equities

The Brazilian real strengthened markedly against the dollar, which fell 2.51% to R$5.84. This represents the currency’s strongest level in a month, reflecting renewed confidence in Brazilian assets.

Global markets matched Brazil’s optimism. Wall Street indices posted their best performance in years on Wednesday. The S&P 500 recorded its largest daily gain since 2008. Technology stocks outperformed as the Nasdaq Composite soared 12.16%.

Trading volume remained robust with 708 advancing stocks versus 268 decliners on the B3 exchange. The broad participation showed investors’ relief extended beyond a few select names.

Despite the rally, volatility indicators suggest continued market uncertainty. The CBOE Brazil ETF Volatility index rose nearly 3% to 28.63 on Wednesday, signaling investors remain cautious despite improved sentiment.

Brazilian equities continue trading at discounted valuations. The market’s price-to-earnings ratio of approximately 8.5x sits well below historical averages, potentially presenting opportunities for value-focused investors.

Analysts now watch whether the index can sustain momentum in coming sessions. Early signs suggest consolidation rather than correction, with most sectors maintaining their gains. The market awaits additional economic indicators that might influence future central bank decisions.
