Brazilian chicken exports rose 9.4% in January, reaching 443,000 tons, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). This marks the highest volume ever recorded for the month.

Export revenues climbed 20.9% year-over-year, totaling $826.4 million, underscoring the sector’s growing importance in global trade. China led as the top destination, importing 10% of all shipments.

The United Arab Emirates followed with 8.7%, while Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Africa, the European Union, and the Philippines also made significant purchases.

ABPA President Ricardo Santin highlighted consistent demand from China and the Philippines, projecting strong performance in these markets throughout the year.

The growth reflects Brazil’s competitive edge in poultry production. Lower costs, disease-free status, and a favorable exchange rate make Brazilian chicken attractive globally.

Additionally, diverse product offerings cater to varying consumer needs across regions. Emerging markets like Mexico show promise following renewed food security agreements that boosted Brazilian exports.

Brazil’s Poultry Industry

Domestically, production is set to reach 15.1 million metric tons in 2025, a 1% increase from last year. About one-third of this output targets export markets, emphasizing Brazil’s role as a global poultry leader. However, challenges persist.

Geopolitical instability in key regions and biosecurity risks from global avian influenza outbreaks require vigilance to sustain growth. Investment opportunities have emerged alongside this export boom.

Analysts at Genial Investimentos recommend shares of BRF S.A. and JBS S.A., citing strong market conditions for chicken producers. BRF stands out for its low debt levels and operational efficiency, with a target share price of R$28—nearly 30% above current levels.

JBS also offers potential gains due to its diversified portfolio and global presence, with a target price of R$42.50 reflecting a possible 17.8% increase.

Brazil’s poultry industry continues to expand its global footprint while navigating risks and opportunities. Strong demand for affordable protein positions it well for future growth, benefiting both exporters and investors alike.
