São Paulo hosts free photo exhibit of male and female prisoners from the city

São Paulo City receives until this Friday, October 21, a photo exhibition that composes the 28th International Seminar of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM) at Aché Cultural Complex, at Tomie Ohtake Institute, on the West Side of the São Paulo capital.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 3 PM on Friday and is free.

The exhibition, curated by Juan Esteves, receives photographs by Sebastião Reis Junior, minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and photographer João Wainer.

Both bring in their works the vision of prison as a place where people cohabit with their diversity.

The STJ Minister photographed trans women at the Provisional Detention Center II in Pinheiros in 2022, and 15 of his images are part of the exhibit.

Wainer was in the Carandiru Detention Center between the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.
