Bolivian exports through Peruvian ports are paralyzed by blockades

Bolivian exports and imports through Peruvian ports were once again paralyzed by roadblocks and protests in the south of the neighboring country, due to the impeachment of former President Pedro Castillo (2021-2022).

“Regarding exports, we transport soybeans and their derivatives, vegetable oil, alcohol and minerals. These are products that are stopped in different areas on Peruvian highways. In imports, we bring products from markets in Asia, Europe and Peru, we cannot reach our destinations. Also diesel and gasoline”, explained the leader of international transport drivers, Edwin Lima, this January 6 in contact with the local press.

Roadblocks and protests were reactivated in the regions of Arequipa and Puno, on the border with Bolivia, after the break for the end of the year holidays. Therefore, Bolivian cargo aboard high-tonnage trucks cannot reach the ports of Ilo and Matarani, in the Pacific Ocean.

“It is not time to relive these blockades in the neighboring country of Peru, with this situation due to the removal of former president Pedro Castillo, we regret that there are no guarantees to be able to circulate in Peruvian territory, there is a vacuum of authority,” lamented the Bolivian driver .

The protests and roadblocks in Peru have not ceased since December 7, 2022, when the Peruvian Congress dismissed Castillo for ordering the closure of Parliament.
