Egypt expresses interest to start importing Bolivian beef

Bolivia’s Santa Cruz Cattlemen Federation (Fegasacruz) informed that there is interest from Egypt in importing Bolivian beef due to its “quality and the fulfillment of requirements demanded in the international market”.

In this regard, the consul of Egypt in Bolivia, Mohamed Salah, announced his country’s interest in importing this Bolivian product in the medium term.

Meanwhile, the president of Fegasacruz, Adrian Castedo, said he is holding ongoing talks to advance the export protocol to Egypt.

Based on the information provided by the Santa Cruz entity, the cattle population amounts to 10,385,482 heads, of which 44% is in Santa Cruz, 30.1% in Beni, 6.7% in Chuquisaca, and the rest in other departments of Bolivia.

In the gross value of bovine production, the sector generated US$838.7 million in 2021.

In addition, Santa Cruz would have 81 farms authorized to export meat, that is, 99% of those in Bolivia.

In 2021, external sales of meat and meat products totaled US$100 million, milk US$50 million, and leather US$30 million.

Given this scenario, Fegasacruz projects that the exportable beef balance will rise by 35.6% in eight years, from 51,739 tons in 2022 to 70,189 in 2030.

“However, everything will depend on government policies that accompany this growth.

“There must be legal certainty for investments, a firm hand against land encroachments, stop cattle rustling and generate positive signals with the productive sector”, Fegasacruz pointed out.
