Brazil Hosts BRICS Country Heads at Summit Meeting Next Week

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Political leaders will land in Brazil on November 12th to take part in the 11th BRICS Summit, a group of countries made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

They will be attending the closing of the BRICS Business Forum, which will include 500 entrepreneurs, and will be honored at a dinner at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília in the evening.

Summit

The majority of the BRICS agenda will take place on Thursday, November 14th. There will be a meeting of leaders from member countries with the entrepreneurs who make up the organization’s council and also with the board of the New Development Bank, the financial institution founded by the BRICS. At 1 PM, there will be a closing lunch at the Itamaraty Palace.

Cooperation between the BRICS countries in the area of science, technology, and innovation will be the main topic to be discussed at the summit.

According to Foreign Trade and Economic Affairs Secretary, Ambassador Norberto Moretti, the topic will be included in the Declaration of Leaders, which will be released at the end of the event on November 14th. The document will offer countries opportunities for cooperation in the development of technology parks and incubators and in the training of researchers.

The declaration will also include the cooperation of the five countries in the fight against corruption and terrorism, the exchange of good practices and the development of medicines against tuberculosis. There will also be an item dedicated to human breastfeeding as a means of preventing diseases.

The BRICS Business Council (CEBRICS) was founded in 2013 at the bloc’s 5th Summit in Durban, South Africa. Formed to strengthen and promote economic, commercial, business and investment ties between the business communities of the countries that make up the group, the Council’s mission is also to ensure regular dialogue between business sectors and governments, as well as to identify issues and obstacles in the area of trade and investment in their relations.

Comprising 25 members and advised by nine working groups acting in a consultative forum, the board’s mission is to ensure that the main priorities of the private sector are effectively conveyed to government leaders at the BRICS summit.
