RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazil Investment Forum, the largest foreign investment event in Latin America, has gathered around 5,000 participants and investors from 100 different countries in its fifth edition to bring infrastructure, agribusiness, renewable energy, or technology projects to the table.

The attendees can potentially attract more than US$66 billion in investments and help create 200,000 jobs in the Latin American country.

The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone, highlighted the “resounding success” of this fifth edition. The meeting held annually is organized by the IDB, ApexBrasil, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Economy of Brazil.

“This year’s forum was a resounding success, helping to chart the path to a booming recovery, the creation of new markets, and the acceleration of investments, led by the private sector as a catalyst for sustainable and inclusive impact. Brazil’s potential is immense, and we are helping to realize it together, in the service of development,” said Claver-Carone.

The IDB president also noted that the institution is actively structuring resources dedicated to supporting public-private partnerships and concessions to generate US$5.5 billion in capital investments over the next decade in Brazil.

At the start of the forum, Claver-Carone highlighted the role these partnerships must play for Brazil, Latin America, and the Caribbean, in general, to take advantage of this once-in-a-generation opportunity for insertion into global value chains and ‘nearshoring’, which could generate a short-term regional boost of US$78 billion in exports of goods and services per year.

CREDIT OF US$150 MILLION

At the end of the forum, the IDB also announced the approval of a US$150 million credit to improve infrastructure and road safety in the state of Ceará, in northeastern Brazil.

The program provides for the revision of sections of state routes to improve access to logistics corridors in 25 municipalities in five productive areas.

The reduction in travel times and costs will help optimize the transport of raw materials and the marketing of products from different supply chains.

In particular, the project will directly benefit nine high-value product chains with export potential. It will also facilitate balanced territorial development, helping to reduce social inequalities by enabling new employment opportunities and improving connectivity.

During the forum, the IDB and Brazil also signed a US$1.6 million partnership for sustainable transport, with financial contributions from the United Kingdom.

The multilateral organization also announced the extension of technical support to Brazil’s Ministry of Economy to help the country join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
